Project Information

The Technical Assistance services formulated a Southern Philippines Irrigation Sector Project (the Project) for possible external financing.  The envisioned Project will comprise a variety of small and medium scale scheme in the Region VI, VII, Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and CARAGA Region to be selected depending on the geographical and hydrological regimes, development potential and implementation capacity of the executing agencies concerned and the willingness of the farmers to participate in implementation and operation and maintenance (O&M) of the scheme.  

It was anticipated that the Project components will include (i) rehabilitation and improvement of existing surface irrigation schemes of CIS and NIS2, (ii) construction of Small Reservoir Irrigation Projects (SRIPs) with participatory approach and (iv) strengthen of the regional and provincial NIA staff and irrigator’s Association (IA) and Irrigators’ Service Cooperative (ISC).  The executing agency for the TA will be the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) under the Department of Agriculture (DA).

• Reviewed and assessed relevant reports, policies, data, institutions, organizations, and projects;
• Assessed the capacity of the Provincial Government;
• Conducted survey, identification and feasibility study of Core Subprojects;
• Undertook Initial Environmental Examination (IEE)/ Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for Each Core Subproject;
• Conducted social impact assessment;
• Performed agricultural analysis and evaluation;
• Performed economic and financial analysis;
• Designed training programs for NIA Staff and IAs/ISCs;
• Undertook planning workshops
